On transgender healthcare, transitioning later in life, and authentic trans representation
3 podcast episodes to listen to this Transgender Day of Visibility
Today is a cool day – it's International Transgender Day of Visibility, and in the current world conversation that really matters. To celebrate, we wanted to share some of the podcasts we’ve done with amazing people.
One of our earliest episodes was with the fabulous Cole Meyers, who we spoke with about authentic trans representation. Cole’s an educator, activist, and writer who works as a creator and consultant on trans and gender diverse narratives and inclusion across various media.
Next is the elegant and wonderful Lucy Sante, who transitioned at the age of 67, after she downloaded an app on her phone that had a gender-swapping feature that allowed her to see herself as a woman. She came on the podcast to share with us her story – about her childhood, why she transitioned in later life, what that was like and the joy she's experienced since then.
Finally, we’ve also had a great conversation with the Health Lead of GATE – aka Global Action for Trans Equality. We spoke with the lovely Anil Padavatan all about understanding trans healthcare – what it is, why and how all kinds of people, not just those who are transgender, access services like puberty blockers and hormone replacement therapy.
A final honourable mention from us is to the incredible Schuyler Bailar – we haven’t been able to have him on the podcast yet, but we think the work that he does is really important, and super accessible. He has a great collection of resources on his website, for trans people as well as cishet folks who want to get educated or any people who are looking for advice on how to be an ally.
Let us know in the comments about any trans people who inspire you – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
